Welcome to my site on homeschooling.
This project was mooted with the birth of my daughter and a quest to provide the most natural learning experience for her all-round development.
My introduction to the concept of homeschooling came about when I first read John Holt’s “Instead of Education”. Holt’s ideas on how children learn seemed radical and unheard of for me at the time as a new mother. As a child of parents who were educators in the public school system, Holt’s ideas were inspirational, and revolutionary. Growing up, I attended public school and have always felt that there had to be a better pathway to learning than what we experienced. I was awed by the possibility of an alternative education, so vastly different from the archaic mainstream public schooling systems still in existence today. I felt empowered by the thought that I can play an active role in my daughter’s learning experiences, despite not having any exposure to pedagogy whatsoever. I trained as a microbiologist, and later on pursued a Masters degree in Biotechnology. But thanks to my daughter, I am now able to expand my pool of knowledge to include (alternative) education as well!
With much enthusiasm, I embarked on my research into homeschooling, and discovered several other alternative modes of schooling such as the Waldorf-Steiner philosophy and spirituality-based education systems including the Neohumanist Education movement propounded by Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar of the Ananda Marga movement.
From my research, it is evident that there are many parents out there who have taken this revolutionary path and have found it to be most fulfilling. And this trend is on the rise, judging by the popularity of the movement and ever-increasing interest in homeschooling. Parents, by droves, are taking control of their children’s education for one reason or other. This scenario served as an impetus for me to develop this site with the primary aim to act as a guide/resource center on information related to homeschooling.
Thus, whether you are a parent or an educator, it is my genuine wish that my site helps you in your journey in the realm of homeschooling/education by exploring some of the available options and tools that is found on the World Wide Web. Many of the products and services reviewed here are not limited to homeschoolers, but will benefit parents who are looking to supplement formal school education and also to provide a well-balanced learning experience for their children.
On that note, I wish you good luck and Happy Searching!
With best wishes,
